The Queen Mary

The Ross Sisters' story is very much tied to WWII. In 1946 the sisters took the Queen Mary from NYC to London where they would perform in the stage show Piccadilly Hayride. The ship had been retrofitted during the war as a troop ship and was known as the Grey Ghost for the drab color it was painted. One month after the Ross Sisters traveled on her, the Queen Mary was returned to her glitzy cruise ship glory. This photo shows thousands of soldiers returning from Europe.
